Greenbone Saga Fanart

The Greenbone Saga is my absolutely favorite series! Re-reading Jade City usually involves my unquenchable desire to draw fanart - my latest one of Kaul Hilo and the Maiks in Janloon. I also re-imagined alternative covers for the series. The best about it all? The author, Fonda Lee, got to see my fanart on socials and seemed very excited about it. Can you imagine how excited I was about that and still am??

Hilo and the Maiks (February 2025)

This artwork is inspired by chapter 25 („Lines Drawn“) of Jade City, where Hilo laments that being the Horn had become entirely too stressful.

I wanted to give Hilo a bit of a break and portray him smoking a cigarette while Maik Kehn and Maik Tar keep watch. Gotta watch your back with Gont and Ayt out for your neck.

The Other One Who Returned (January 2025)

This artwork is inspired by the chapter with the same name, from Jade City. I wanted to show Kaul Shae returning, to exact her vengeance on Poorman’s Road.

Alternate Cover Designs (Summer 2024)

I absolutely adore the original covers, especially the poison green of Jade City.

To me, this color is now „Jade Green“, even though I am aware Jade Green is another, more muted shade of green. For my alternate cover designs, I used the original font and layout, but added an illustration of the characters:

  • Kaul Hilo for Jade City, in the backstreets of PawPaw

  • Kaul Shae for Jade War, on the streets of the Armpit

  • Again Kaul Shae for Jade Legacy, on the roofs of Janloon, inspired by, „Granddaughter Cormorant“, one of the short stories in Jade Shards.

Chibi Hilo & Shae (Summer 2023)

Whenever I look back on my earliest attempts of drawing the Kaul siblings, I am amazed how far I’ve come in my art skills.
